Dining room evolution

Untitled

Here's the house when I first moved in, just bare, sticky floors in the kitchen and dining room where golden carpet had reigned for 30 or so years. When I got here I was totally broke, so I found some carpet sample tiles at the local furniture store on the cheap and cut each to fit a square tile pattern... this took nearly 80 hours (shown below), but fate didn't have it in its plans I guess, because all that work got destroyed in a small accident (I'll say no more to protect the innocent), and eventually I just replaced the hard-won tile job with a simple tan carpet.

And below is the most recent dining room incarnation. It's definitely a little more traditional than Panton chairs and a 50s chrome table, but I was able to keep it funky by painting the cabinets and lining the interiors with reclaimed lumber. Inside each are mostly thrift store finds, a rolling pin hanging rack I made, and two antique windows a contractor friend was replacing and let me have. Above, the 'Egg Room' sign was formerly a part of my parents' horse barn, which was for years a chicken hatchery before we moved in.

Kitchen: Accomplished

Untitled

After four long years, I finally feel like the kitchen's complete. There have
been arguments about color, style, appliances, but at long last, it was all
worth the huge pain in my ass. I hated to paint over the beautiful wood in
the top photo; that was one of the biggest hold-outs. Problem was, and you

Thrifting finds, ponchoriffic!

Ponchoriffic
At the mere mention of "Let's take some photos," my daughter shoots up out of
her chair and runs to do makeup and hair.  Rest assured, the word homework
doesn't get the same enthusiasm! The last week or so I've been coming across
all of these remarkable ponchos and amazing leather coats. The thrift gods seem
to be on my side clothing-wise. She was hesitant at first when I handed her a
poncho... she asked me, "Are you sure it won't seem racist?" Ahahaha, I remember
a period during the 80s when EVERYBODY was wearing those poncho-esque

Gettin' all graphic design-y

Untitled

Untitled

I found these amaaaazing vintage Old Maid cards at our last community-wide garage
sale, and decided to make reproductions of the cards with my info/shop name so I
can start selling at flea markets and that sort of thing. I just punched holes with a hole
punch at the top and at the hands of these divine circus characters, and voila! It's
unbelievable sometimes how much time runs away when you're carving out goodness
on Photoshop.
