Boring ass tan...

My living room was two shades of boring ass tan. Now it's Dutch Boy Ultra White.... or just "unmixed paint" as some would call it. But I sure did find a beautiful bright chartreuse for the window ledges.  After upcycling a vintage oval mirror into a chalk clock, this room's on its way.

Texas Eclectic

Dallas couple Adam and Alicia Rico put together this amazing home (photographed by Lyndsay von Hagel), and I'm pretty sure it's nothing short of absolute perfection. I've been on Houzz.com since its beginning days, invited to join and post images, but as far as I can tell, I've never come across a design so close to my heart. I can't find... one thing... wrong. I lived in Austin for a short time, and they seemed to give Dallas a hard time... it's all very competitive. Austin claimed to be the 'weird' capital, and Austinites many times claimed Dallas was on "Dockers patrol," yuppies without a cause. But here's proof there must be some awesomeness in Dallas.  I wasn't surprised this is the home of fellow creatives; the couple own a floral design company, Bows and Arrows, hence the beautiful flowers found in the photographs. Arrrgh, she says. Scan, she does. Pillage the house for things that look good pressed against lit up glass, she means.

I've been on this huge scanning kick lately, scanning anything and everything in the house, and looking up all the scans I can find on flickr and google searches for inspiration. I've apparently done a real number on my scanner... let's just say customer service at Canon isn't my biggest fan right now. I say things to them like, "Oooooh, I think I just found the problem, a button and a piece of a cucumber."  It's still broken, and I'm hoping that a magical unicorn will show up on my door and hand me a scanner with a 3 foot by 4 foot scanning bed and a drum scanner for medium format film. C'mon, universe. Gimme some big technology.

Recycled Barn wood garden dresser

I've been cleaning out the garden shed, and found this old 60s dresser. Age and water warped, it still works perfect for a planter. I used the mitre saw to cut for length, then a nail gun put them all in place. Next, I've gotta line the drawers with plastic so the bottoms don't rot and I can start some herbs in there... and some kind of cascading flower.

Update: here it is a few months later when my flowers bloomed :)
